Made safe

BAHIAGRASS is the answer for the creation of turf in conditions of heat and salinity of the growing substrate and potential irrigation water. This is the seed of the Paspalum notatum species, a macrotherm native to South America which has a deep and collated root system.

It has a slightly prostrate shape and therefore requires medium-high cutting heights (approximately 4-6 cm). The small seeds are packaged to improve germination capacity and make sowing operations simpler. It shows good tolerance to drought and requires low maintenance interventions (it also adapts well to arid soils poor in organic substance).

The resistance to trampling is good, useful for forming residential gardens subject to heavy wear (e.g. hospitality structures).

Shade tolerance is medium, medium-low.

Forms robust and visible lateral propagation organs (stolons and rhizomes). The stolons can also have a typical reddish color.

It goes dormant when late autumn arrives and overcomes the cold periods by blocking its metabolic processes. In the cold it tends to lose its leaf system and therefore its overseeding with MACROSEEDING is always preferable in order to have grassy coverage of the garden at any time of the year. Its sowing is not recommended in areas where the rigors of winter are evident and temperatures below 0 °C occur for several days.

Its use is very interesting for low maintenance areas, such as public parks, roadsides, and/or for flowerbeds and gardens in coastal environments subject to drought and high temperatures.

Composition:

Paspalum notatum var. comm (100%)

Technical advice:

Ground

Loose, warm, soft, better if well aerated, with neutral and even sub-alkaline pH.

Sowing period

From April to late August. BAHIAGRASS needs soil temperatures above 15-18 °C to allow optimal germination.

Recommended dosage

10-15 g/m2 The maximum doses are recommended in case of late sowing and/or imperfect tillage of the seed bed.

Cut

Perform the first cut when the carpet has reached 6-8 cm, approximately 3-4 weeks after emergence and immediately bring it to 5.5-6 cm.

Once the lawn is mature you can go down to 4-5 cm without problems. The more the cutting height is reduced, the more maintenance requirements are accentuated.

Nutrition

Phosphate fertilization at sowing. During the vegetative growth phase (late spring, summer and early autumn) it is best to maintain an adequate nitrogen level to facilitate the plants' metabolism with fertilizers such as Speed Green 20-5-10 or Hot Summer 35-0-0. The frequency of intervention varies in relation to the type of use/cutting height supported. Before entering dormancy (autumn), we recommend distributing Cold Time 4-3-8 to face the rigors of winter and promote a prompt spring restart. The same fertilizer is also very interesting for the first vegetative awakening in spring

Irrigation

If there is an irrigation system during sowing, keep the soil constantly moist so as not to stop the germination process. Afterwards the quantity of water can be significantly reduced (depending on the type of use).

Phytostimulation

Plan at least 2 biostimulant treatments (Always, Pre-Stress, Power Liquid) between July and August to increase tolerance to heat and trampling.

Regeneration

It can be performed in 2 different periods with 2 different purposes. At the beginning-late autumn (depending on the settlement area) to avoid yellow color and allow vegetative growth of the lawn, intervention with MACROSEEDING (special formula based on selected and specific ryegrasses with a short spring transition period) at a dose between 40-50 and 80 g/m2 (the higher doses refer to technical overseeding). Or at the end of spring (end of April-June) with KIKUYU at a dose of 10-15 g/m2 to close any gaps created during the winter. In any case, a verticut must always be carried out with the removal of the felt and waste material before reseeding operations.
