June | 7 tips for your lawn

What treatments should be done to the lawn in June?

In June the first summer heat appears, the rains decrease, the irrigation systems are turned on, the dangers of fungal diseases begin, the larvae of harmful insects appear and the summer weeds arrive forcefully.
How to avoid damage to the lawn?
Here are some tips for the treatments and work to be carried out in the month of June:

1) Raise the cut

We recommend first of allraise the cut by approximately 1 - 1.5cmcompared to that held during the spring.
The fundamental rule always remains that ofnever remove more than 30%of the height and carefully check that the lawnmower blades are always sharp, if necessary sharpen them or replace them.
If you make a cutmulchingWe advise you todouble the cutoff frequencyto facilitate the decomposition of the shredded parts.
Keeping the lawndense and compactsummer weeds will not find space to grow and will die without causing too much damage.

2) Potassium fertilization

If it has not yet been carried out in May, fertilization is mainly for the month of Junepotassium (K).
Potassium has actionanti-stressand it is essential to provide it to the lawn as it strengthens its cell walls so as to allow it to resist high temperatures and summer stress.

We recommend using a fertilizer with at least 20-30% potassium but without neglecting nitrogen (slow release only!).
Here are some products you could use:

-Summer K 10-0-30
-Slow K 13-5-20
-Autumn K 21-0-25

3) Biostimulation of the turf

Especially when temperatures exceed 30°, it is advisable to carry out biostimulationreduce stress and support the lawn.
As a basis for any biostimulation we recommendAlways,a completely organic professional lawn fertilizer extracted from sugar cane, based onhumic acids and amino acids.
If you want to obtain a more powerful action in view of intense thermal stress we recommend thePre Stress, also ideal for shaded lawns.

Use for both products: 100g diluted in 10L of water per 100m2 of lawn.
Apply on a dry leaf and do not wet the lawn for at least 24 hours.

4) Irrigation

The arrival of warm weather implies turning on the irrigation system or in any case a greater need for water in our lawn.
The most common mistake is to water too much!
Indicatively, with the arrival of intense heat, the lawn needs between30 and 35 liters per square meter per week.
We recommend dividing this quantity into 2 or maximum 3 abundant waterings to be carried outstrictly early in the morning.

5) Prevention from diseases

June is the most dangerous month for lawn fungal diseases.
For this reason we recommend that youprevent its appearancethrough specific products:

-Trichoderma (Temperature 15-25°)
Usage: 50g to be diluted in 15L of water per 100m2 of garden.
Remember to water thoroughly after use.

-Bacillus subtilis(Temperature 20-35°)
Usage: 50g to be diluted in 10L of water per 100m2 of garden.
Apply on a dry leaf and do not wet the lawn for at least 24 hours.

-Potassium phosphite, a treatment that promotes the strengthening of the turf and activates internal self-defense mechanisms.
Usage: 25g to be diluted in 10L of water per 100m2 of garden.
Apply on a dry leaf and do not wet the lawn for at least 24 hours.

6) Prevention from insects

In addition to fungal diseases, another thing to pay attention to is that ofinsects, in particular the eggs of beetles and lepidopterans hatch and the larvae appear.
The larvae settle underground andthey eat the roots of the turfcausing the death of large areas of lawn.
Even in this case the only solution ispreventionusing specific natural products, we offer youFly.
These are predatory microorganisms capable ofmake the habitat inhospitable for harmful insects.
Usage: 30g to be diluted in 15L of water per 100m2 of garden.
Remember to water thoroughly after use.

7) Land

As we said before, it is very important that the land is irrigated but it can happen that the problem is precisely thatsoil itself is unable to absorb water.
This phenomenon isanything but rareand it can causeyellowingand aesthetic defects on the lawn.
In this case you can act by making holes with a fork and if that is still not enough you can resort totreatments with wetting agentsprofessional likeWater PlusorWater.
